Clearwater Beach lifeguards dealt with two unrelated medical issues today.

After an unidentified male passed out in knee-high water between lifeguard towers 1 and 2, lifeguards responded and started "life-breathing." CPR is performed when someone is not breathing and have no pulse. Rescue breathing is used when there is a pulse, but the person has either no breathing or inadequate breathing.

Rescue breathing was performed for about 10 minutes until paramedics arrived.

The incident appeared to be alcohol-related, authorities said. The person was transported to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Separately, an unidentified girl had a heat-related issue and passed out. She was treated on scene with cold packs and taken out of the heat, authorities said.
