Green ARTery, Tampa wants to connect 20 of Tampa's neighborhoods with a multi-use trail.

Cyclists, joggers and walkers may already be using the Perimeter Trail in Tampa and not even know it, Green ARTery Spokesperson, Heidi Bissell explained.

"A lot of it is just neighborhood streets, and really, without a map at the moment, you wouldn't know you were on the Perimeter Trail,” Bissell said.

The trail starts downtown at Curtis Hixon Park, runs north through Lowry Park, crosses over into Old Seminole Heights, through east Tampa, Ybor, then back to downtown. It nearly makes a full circle, with the exception of a piece in Old Seminole Heights at the 22nd Street Park.

The Metropolitan Planning Organization has the extension of the trail through the park on its 2015 plan.  Now Green ARTery Tampa wants to raise funds in preparation for the full trail connection. They'll use money for a variety of purposes according to Bissell.

"We want to get money for all the different projects that are going to go along the trail.  So that would be things up and beyond the trail itself, but like art along the ARTery, any sort of plantings that we might do, materials to get anything moving a little faster in places where we can make some modifications."

Once the section through the 22nd Street Park is connected, and clear trail signage and markings put in place, Green ARTery says it will allow the community to more fully enjoy everything the city has to offer.
