The number of people going to the hospital for heart-related conditions is decreasing. That includes the number of patients dying from those conditions.

According to the journal Circulation, data from 1999 to 2011 reveals that hospitalizations dropped for heart attacks, angina, heart failure and stroke.

Deaths from those ailments also dropped significantly during that time frame.

Studies show that healthier lifestyle choices and better treatment for cardiovascular health are saving lives.

Pregnant women should get flu shot

The flu shot is recommended for all pregnant women.

More evidence shows the vaccine is safe for pregnant women, according to new guidelines from the American College of Obstetricians and gynecologists.

The flu can cause pneumonia, premature labor and and other complications.

The guidelines also suggest that women who are breastfeeding or who have recently given birth should also get vaccinated early in the season.

Flue season starts in October and lasts through May.

Apps offer customized workouts

If you are short on time and want a short, intense workout, there's an app for that.

There are several free apps that will put together a customized training circuit based on what users want to focus on.

They can include strength, cardio or stretching, targeting specific parts of the body or even a timed workout.

Some routines are made up of 30-second exercises.

Even if you can't do the 150 minutes a week that's recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and prevention, experts say quick stints of exercise can have positive health effects.
