A man was killed early Thursday after a shooting near a downtown Tampa nightclub.

According to police, shortly before 2 a.m., witnesses flagged down a nearby Tampa Police patrol unit and told the officer that a man was shot. 

When officers arrived on the 900 block of East Whiting Street, they found a man, later identified as 23-year-old Terence Wilson, fatally wounded in the parking lot.

Based on preliminary information, detectives believe that the shooting may have been related to an incident involving the victim and the suspect(s) that took place inside the club. The suspect(s) approached the victim while he was walking to his car from the club.

Detectives are interviewing club patrons and following up on leads. Officials said club management is working with investigators.
