A Parrish resident is about to make history.
Amber Putnam will become the first woman to command the Florida VFW next year.
She served in the Air Force for 32 years, including 21 in active duty, and currently is an administration officer for Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base.
Putnam, 54, is a member of Palma Sola Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10141. She is a native of Portsmouth, Va.
