Traveling to New York City will soon get easier for Manatee and Sarasota County residents.

Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport announced Monday that United Airlines will offer non-stop daily service between the airport and United's New York hub at Newark (N.J.) Liberty International Airport.

The flights will begin Feb. 12 and run through May 15.

United will use Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 154 seats (16 in first class, 48 in "Economy-Plus" and 138 in economy).

United already serves the airport that goes by the SRQ call letters with year-round daily non-stop flights to the carrier’s Chicago O’Hare hub.

“We are thrilled that United has decided to return Newark/New York service to our community,”  said Fredrick J. Piccolo, president and chief executive officer at SRQ. "This commitment demonstrates that the Sarasota-Bradenton area is a strong market for our airline partners.

"The flights to the Newark Liberty hub will provide opportunities for connections to additional destinations, both domestically and internationally, and we look forward to exploring other opportunities for expansion in the future.”
