We’ve met some of the professors at Florida Polytechnic University and now we’re meeting some of the students who say they plan to change the world.

If you’re walking the quiet halls of Florida Poly you’ll probably hear Rhett Fitchett coming.

“I walk around, I’d say every step a normal person takes, I take probably double the amount,” Fitchett said.

The college freshman was has lived his entire life without legs and only part of his arms.

“I think my handicap has more given me a perspective to allow me to do great things,” he said.

And that’s exactly what he plans to do at Florida Poly. His major is biomechanics. He said it’s something he’s already had practice with when he helped make his prosthetics that he wears now.

“I was in a wheelchair almost all my life. I say all my life and I’m not that old. In 7th grade. I got these prosthesis I made,” he said.

Fitchett may be different physically but when it comes to his passion for learning, he’s pretty much like every other student at Florida Poly. And because of that students say everyone here is treated the same.

“Nobody is trying out to be the big bad guy. It’s like everyone just wants to be friendly and make this place a better school,” said freshman, Alex Giannakaris.

It’s something students say will allow them to focus on what really counts.

Almost all the students we talked to said they plan to change the world with the education and technology offered at Florida Poly. But the most popular thing among these students is the free tuition.

It’s definitely a perk for Fitchett who said he just feels lucky to be here.

“Florida Poly is probably going to be one of the greatest universities in the United States,” said Fitchett.

There are more than 500 students currently enrolled at Florida Poly this semester. They receive free tuition students in next year’s incoming class will receive free tuition and free room and board.

School officials say started receiving applications for next year before the school’s construction was even completed.
