The Wiregrass Ranch High School percussion ensemble is growing fast. Students want to take it a step further by buying their own instruments so more students can get involved.

"This group is like my family," student Sahara Rasmussen said. "Music is, like, my life. Music has provided so many opportunities for me to grow in my musicianship."

So many students feel that way that the group wants to expand its ensemble and buy more specialized instruments -  such as a marimba.

The group decided to start a Go Fund Me page. It's an online fundraising campaign that allows people to donate as little or as much as they want.

The price tag is hefty, but so is students' talent. They'll need roughly $25,000 for their entire wish list.

"They came up with this idea. They really do want this ensemble," said Patrick Duncan, the band's director.

Duncan says the district has done a fantastic job of providing instruments for the classes. But the interest has outgrown the instruments available.

The new equipment would allow more students to learn the specialized instruments, but it would also mean entering more competitions and starting an indoor band.

"I want this badly; it's a future not only for our band, but for us, our school, for probably the entire county," said sophomore Robert Rodriguez.

The students believe it's a legacy they can pass on to future Wiregrass Ranch Bulls for generations.
