The Clearwater Police Department is hosting a seminar to help residents reduce their risk of becoming crime victims.

The seminar will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Clearwater Aging Well Center, which is located in the Long Center at 1501 N. Belcher Rd.

Those who plan to attend are urged to bring small items like camera, laptops and video games so they can be engraved. Police say that helps in the recovery process in case the items are stolen.

Detectives said they will also discuss things homeowners can do, like cutting back trees and bushes that can provide cover to suspects and installing motion-detector lighting.  Detectives also say closing garage doors and locking vehicles are two more ways to deter potential crimes.
