An overnight fire in the Thonotosassa area left a 51-year-old homeowner with nothing except a burned concrete statue of Jesus.

Guy Pope's doublewide trailer in the 13000 block of McIntosh Road was five miles from the nearest hydrant, which played a role in the trailer being destroyed.

"Total loss," Pope said early Thursday, searching through what remained of his home. "Fifty-one years old, ain't got nothing left right now. My clothes, my wheelchair, my electric wheelchair, everything was in there."

The fire broke out just before 2 a.m. and the home was engulfed in flames when Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews arrived.

Due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area, water tanker units were called to assist. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames from all directions and had it under control in 30 minutes.

The fire follows a violent confrontation three weeks ago, Pope said. He said he believes someone had a vendetta against him and set his home on fire.

Fire investigators have started an investigation.

The home's electricity was off at the time of the fire.

There were no injuries reported.
