After several days of hot and dry weather, rain prevailed in the Bay area's eastern counties on Friday.

According to Bay News 9 Chief Meteorologist Brian McClure, the return of the moisture occurred right on time today with our typical scattered storms returning in the afternoon to evening.

Many counties saw very heavy rain with the least amount in Pinellas, Manatee, and southern Hillsborough.

"Saturday morning will start out quiet," said McClure. "But there will be another round of scattered storms in the late afternoon to evening that drift toward our side of the state and move toward the Gulf."

Otherwise it will be partly sunny and hot with highs in the low to mid 90s.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Polk County and northwestern Hillsborough County earlier this evening.

Skies will be partly cloudy overnight with low temperatures in the mid 70s to 80 degrees.
