An ear, nose and throat doctor in Lakeland is launching a new product that consumers might like the sound of.
Doctor Eric Hensen, with Lakeland Regional Medical Group, invented a new set of wireless earphones called Free Wavz.
“Well it got started because of what I do for a living, what I saw when I worked out in my personal life and in some of my patients,” Dr. Hensen said.
The Bluetooth earphones have a host of features. They will cancel out noise, allow you to make a phone call, and even check your pulse.
“Let’s say that you’re riding your bike or you’re running, and you want to keep one ear to music and you want to keep one ear on the road or road noise behind you,” said Dr. Hensen. “You can actually program that so it has directional enhancement that will pick up the sound coming from behind you.”
The earphones will be a hit for runners like Joshua Farrell.
“I just started out with whatever came with my iPod, whatever came with my iPad,” Farrell said. “Any of those types of products and they would start shorting out loosing a side or stop working all together.”
Farrell said having the right device is important because the music he listens to in his headphones helps motivate him to keep going.
“I used to weigh about 114 pounds more and so I just got motivated into running and it’s saved my life really,” he said.
Doctor Hensen is hoping his head phones will also help save people’s hearing.
“You’re allowed to have that punch if you will when you have a good song but we don’t let you stay there," said Dr. Hensen. "Our device brings you back down to a safe level.”
The sleek, Bluetooth earphones will run you a little more than $200.
Doctor Hensen says he plans to keep the production of the headphones local and they’ll be available soon on the company’s website.
