Tropical Storm Bertha will continue to slowly weaken over the next day as it moves quickly toward the northeast.

According to Bay News 9 meteorologist Juli Marquez, Bertha is expected to become a post-tropical or extra-tropical cyclone by tonight.

There are no coastal warnings or watches in effect, though swimmers and surfers from North Carolina to southern New England should watch for large swells and life-threatening rip current conditions.

Bertha is moving toward the northeast near 28 mph and this general motion is expected to continue through Thursday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts. Slow weakening is forecast in the next day or so as Bertha moves northeast then east over the North Atlantic Ocean.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles, mainly to the east of the center.
