An admitted pedophile from Iowa has been arrested in Pinellas County on a warrant for sexual abuse.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, 52-year-old Stewart David Smith was arrested Thursday on an Iowa warrant for sexual abuse against children. The victims were a 14-year-old girl and 16-year-old girl that were known to Smith.

Officials said the crimes occurred at locations in Tama County, Iowa from when the victim's were 8 years of age to their present age of 14 and 16 years old.

Pinellas County detectives were contacted by the Tama County Sheriff's Office in Iowa, requesting assistance with their investigation into Smith, who lives in Seminole.  

There are no local charges.

According to officials, detectives stated Smith admitted to the media in Iowa that he is a pedophile who has been to prison for crimes against juveniles. Officials said Smith has a criminal history dating back to the 1990's and was a registered sexual offender, but currently has no restrictions and is not required to register.

However, authorities said while living in Florida, Smith lived near a school and church daycare, prompting concerns about the possibility of local victims. An investigation is ongoing.
