The fifth named storm of the season is now a Category 1 hurricane, but Edouard won't get the chance to do any damage to land.

Located in the central Atlantic Ocean about 915 miles east-northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands, the storm is projected to strengthen into a Category 3 hurricane as it curves toward the north. It will weaken as it reaches the cooler waters of the northern Atlantic.

"It is no threat to land," Bay News 9 meteorologist Josh Linker said.

At 11 a.m. Sunday, Hurricane Edouard has maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and was moving northwest at 16 mph.

Edouard follows three hurricanes and one tropical storm in what has been a relatively quiet hurricane season.
