Two Bradenton families are now homeless after the house they were living in was set on fire Saturday.

The McCary family spent their Tuesday morning quickly packing what little belongings they have left.

“We got each other right now. And that’s all we have. We are not in the best position right now. We got nowhere to go,” said Eddie McCary.

Luckily for the families, Hillsborough Firefighter Clint Walker just happened to be driving to work, saw black smoke and traced down the house.

“There was heavy flames, heavy smoke,” said Walker.

Walker then banged on the door and was yelling “Fire, Fire.”

“Because of my yelling and screaming and banging on the doors and everything I was able to wake everyone up. Get them out of those back rooms that were fully charged with smoke,” he said.

The McCary family said their fire alarms didn’t go off. They didn’t smell smoke or see flames. If it wasn’t for firefighter Walker rushing inside Kylie Lee said they might not be here.

“He is defiantly a hero. So I’m defiantly glad that he was there for us that day,” Lee said.

Her fiancé, Eddie McCary agrees thankful that his family is still alive.

“Just blessed that we have some good people out there helping out and him helping us to our rescue,” he said. “You know, saving my family’s life.”

Walker rescued Eddie, Kylie, son Edrick and nephew Maurice and their two dogs and cat from the fire. Their neighbors downstairs were not home at the time.

“I was just happy to be there,” said Walker.

A feeling the family shares, even as they wonder where they are sleeping tonight. The Red Cross put both families in a motel for a few days. But now they are on their own with only the belongings they managed to grab.

“We’re kind of in a jam. We don’t know what we are going to do,” said Lee.

The Bradenton Fire Department is calling the fire suspicious and there are arson signs around the house. The McCary’s did not have renters insurance.
