A Clearwater crossing guard was transported to the hospital after getting hit by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened at Betty Lane and Sunset Point Road.

The crossing guard, a man in his 70s, was taken by ground to St. Joseph's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to City of Clearwater spokesperson Joelle Castelli, it had just started to rain really hard right before the accident.

The driver was headed westbound on Sunset Point Road and was doing close to the posted speed limit of 30 mph, accoridng to Castelli.

The driver stopped at the scene. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

In May, a crossing guard was killed and two young girls injured in an accident at Gulf to Bay Boulevard and Belcher Road.
