A report card on cancer reveals that half of cancer deaths are preventable.

The American Association for Cancer Research says nearly 200,000 people will die from cancers related to tobacco use next year. And thousands more will start using tobacco, even though they know the risks associated with it.

About 585,000 thousand people will die from cancers that can be attributed to their lifestyle. But that number could be cut in half if people would make healthier choice. This includes getting rid of junk food, exercising regularly and not smoking.

Food changes aren't working

Food and beverage companies that have pledged to cut calories in popular items such as soups, sweets and soda are facing a setback.

Those companies say that despite their efforts, most people aren't counting their calories when they eat.

Government data reveals that the U.S. child obesity rate hasn't changed in several years. Health experts say this is an example of why the pledge could stall.
