Wednesday morning's heavy rains brought street flooding to many parts of the Bay area.

Flooding was reported in parts of Tampa, Tarpon Springs, Largo, St. Petersburg, Pinellas Park and Holiday, as patches of heavy rain and thunderstorms move in from the Gulf and sweep across the Bay area.

Some parts of Largo have reportedly received as much as 3 inches of rain, while parts of St. Petersburg have received between 2 and 6 inches of rain since last night.

In Holiday, more than 5 inches of rain have fallen. Flooding was reported in neighborhoods near Lange Road & U.S. 19.

"I put my car on high ground on my neighbor’s property and drove my Jeep to work,” said William Alexander.

"I just wanted to come home. I didn’t know it was that bad,” said Connie Metherell, who made the mistake of driving through the flood waters. "I’m just hoping it starts, that's all."

Beverly Lodge’s car stalled. She forced the door open and neighbors waded over to help, eventually pushing her car to higher ground.

"The water’s in the car coming up to my thigh, my knee in the front seat. I’m thinking of those stories on TV of the women who can’t get out of the car,” Lodge said.

In Clearwater, firefighters rescued a woman from her car after it became trapped in high water.

The scattered showers are expected to continue to move east throughout the morning, bringing heavy downpours with them.

"As we go through the day today, more rain in the Gulf is going to develop and move east," Bay News 9 Meteorologist Juli Marquez said. "We're going to have heavy showers and storms at times."

As a result of the heavy rainfall, an urban flood advisory was issued for Pinellas County. The affected area included Interstate 275 between Exits 6 and 32. It has since expired.

Officials closed Alt US 19 and Martin Luther King in Tarpon Springs due to the flooding at 9:30 a.m. Those roadways were reopened shortly after 11:30 a.m. after flood waters subsided.

Meanwhile, the rain and cloud cover will keep temperatures down slightly as highs are only anticipated to reach the upper 80s. Rain chances will drop by Thursday.
