A 22-year-old Tampa man was electrocuted by downed power lines on Wednesday morning.

Tampa Fire Rescue paramedics responded to a 911 call at a home on the 3000 block of W. Fair Oaks Ave. in Bayshore shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Witnesses at the scene say they heard a loud boom and the victim went to investigate.

According to witnesses, the victim went to a small space between a shed and a fence where power lines had fallen.

When paramedics arrived they found the victim, 22-year-old Christopher Diehl, on the ground but could not approach him while the power lines were still charged.

Once TECO arrived and secured power, paramedics retrieved the patient and began treating him.

He was placed in the rescue car for immediate transport to Tampa General Hospital while paramedics performed CPR en route.

He was pronounced dead upon arrival at TGH.
