Palm Harbor firefighters responded to a fire at a church early Tuesday morning.

Damage from the fire, which was at the Saint Raphael Nicholas Orthodox Church at 1010 Riviere Road, was not as bad as initially feared.

According to Palm Harbor fire officials, a newspaper delivery person spotted the smoke while on her route at 3:30 a.m.

"I wasn't sure if it was fog at first," said Carol Dyer, a Tampa Bay Times delivery person. "Then when I pulled in the driveway I smelled the smoke."

The fire, believed to be electrical, was quickly put out. There were no injuries.

Palm Harbor fire officials said the fire was limited to a kitchen and a vestibule adjacent to the church sanctuary. Most of the damage was caused by smoke, officials said.

"We are still a little in shock," said church president Archon Elias Damianakis. "But we will hold prayer service outside if we have to."
