A Winter Haven man died Tuesday morning after he was hit while riding his motorcycle in Poinciana.

The crash happened at 5:39 a.m. on Cypress Parkway in Poinciana.

Robert L. Heery, 60, was riding his 2007 black Harley Davidson east on Cypress Parkway when a 2009 blue Pontiac Vibe left one of the Solivita Community entrances and pulled in front of him, deputies said.

Deputies said Heery tried to avoid the crash, but was unable to do so, and hit the driver's side of the Vibe.

Both Heery and the driver of the Vibe, 68-year-old Edward Foster, were taken to Poinciana Medical Center. Heery was pronounced dead a short while later.

Deputies said Foster was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, and Heery was not wearing his helmet.

Speed and impairment are not considered to be factors in this crash.

Cypress Parkway was closed at San Clemente Avenue for three hours.

The investigation continues.
