Some Pinellas County residents want to rename a downtown street all in the name of history after James Earl “Doc” Webb.

Webb ran ‘Webb's City’, self-proclaimed to be the world's most unusual drug store. The Webb's City campus included 77 departments, everything from groceries to pharmacy to furniture. There were dance classes on the roof and even a nursery and greenhouse.

It occupied the corner of MLK and 1st Avenue South from the mid-1920's to the mid-1970's.

David Kirchinger is leading the charge. Kirchinger said the grassroots effort is getting some traction.

"A lot of community support. People are interested and going, yeah it's a great idea, we need to preserve history in this city and that's one thing we're trying to shoot for,” Kirchinger said.

Jim Webb, Webb's grandson, would love to see a street named after his grandfather.

"Sometimes I take a pause in my vehicle and stop and have a look at all of it and I say, gee... what a great guy, you know?" Webb said.

Second Avenue South and 8th Street South top the group's list for renaming.
