The push is on to make a deadly Citrus County road safer.

On December 30, a 15-year-old Citrus County teen was killed along U.S. 19 in Homosassa. Clayton Storey was riding his bike when he swerved in front of a car and was killed.

The news of the tragic accident hit Beverly Howard and Dana Laurents hard. Beverly taught Clayton in the fourth grade and Dana is a friend. The two have now teamed up to try and make part of U.S. 19 safer.

"Inevitably somebody else will die on this road if we don't do something," Howard said.

"We don't need to lose another innocent life," Laurents said.

The two want the state to build a multi-use path along part of U.S. 19 for people on bike and people on foot. They call their movement "Sidewalks For Safety." They started a Facebook page to raise awareness and they have an online and a hard copy petition going.

"This is something I'm supposed to do," Howard said.

Howard says they're working with local and state leaders to make it happen, but they need lots of support and they're not going to back down.

"I'm not going to give up," Laurents said.

"We are going to go to every meeting, every committee meeting," Howard said. "We are going to stay strong."

So the push is on to make part of U.S. 19 safer, all because of young life taken way too soon.
