Super Bowl week isn’t just for football lovers. It’s a great time of year to save on big screen televisions. Best Buy employee Dylan Bean says Super Bowl "season" is second only to one other holiday.

“It’s probably the second most busiest time of the year, other than Black Friday,” Bean said.

This year, buyers can pick from TVs with smart features, 3D and 4K resolution.

“People want the new 4-K TVs that are out because you want the best picture quality.” Bean said. “Then, two, is smart features, like Netflix, YouTube and Facebook. It’s like having a built-in computer into your actual television, so it’s pretty sweet.”

The 4K ultra high definition is the newest big update for TVs. The resolution is four times that of regular HD.

“I’m looking for something I can watch a hockey game or a football game and have the best picture I can get,” said Scott McKenney, a Best Buy customer.

To truly see the benefit of 4K resolution, you need a 65-inch screen or bigger. But there’s still not a lot of content broadcast in 4K. In fact, this year’s Super Bowl won’t use that resolution. Companies like YouTube, Amazon and Netflix are developing content to take advantage of the technology this year.

Curved screens are another much-talked-about feature.

“What the curved design is supposed to do is give you a more immersive feel,” Bean said. “It’s going to draw you in more to the show you’re watching.”

A curved screen also cuts down on reflections. But experts say the benefits are subtle and mostly for those sitting up close and center.

Customers will find an average savings of about 20 percent leading up to the big game.
