The Manatee County School Board voted Monday to part ways with former Manatee High School Assistant Principal Gregg Faller.

The board decided to retroactively suspend him without pay until the end date of his contract last June to avoid formally firing him, the Bradenton Herald reported. The suspension means Faller is not owed any back pay.

Last June, a jury convicted Faller of one misdemeanor count of failure to report suspected child abuse involving former assistant football coach and parent liaison Rod Frazier.

The board rejected a recommended order from an administrative law judge, which said the district had just cause to fire Faller, and decided instead on on a suspension from Oct. 14, 2013 to June 30, 2014. Faller was suspended in October, and his contract was not renewed in June.

Faller told the Herald he will continue to pursue jobs in the education field, although it could be tough to find employment.
