A Dunedin couple is accused of killing a relative’s dog.

According to deputies, on Jan. 26, Alan and Laura Adams reported their Tarpon Springs house had been broken into, their iPad stolen and their 4-year-old Labrador retriever, Daisy, was deceased.

Detectives say they were able to determine that the victims' son, Daniel Adams, and his girlfriend, Laura Curran, 28, had committed the burglary.

According to the sheriff's office, Adams, 34, later admitted to investigators that he and his girlfriend drove to his parents' house with their child to kill Daisy.

Detectives said they broke into the home, stole an iPad to make it look like a burglary, and then injected the dog with an unknown medication.

The couple faces charges of burglary, animal cruelty, and child abuse.

According to the sheriff's office, investigators said they received conflicting statements as to why the couple set out to kill the dog.

Adams said they thought the dog was a threat to other dogs. Curran indicated she thought the dog was a threat to the children. The sheriff’s office said there was no indication the dog ever did anything wrong.
