A 15-year-old boy is facing multiple charges after officers said he crashed a stolen car into the fence surrounding Clearwater Country Club Thursday night.

The teenager was taken into custody about 11 p.m. Thursday after police said he crashed the stolen 2013 Lincoln into a fence on the north side of the golf course at Palmetto Street and Kings Highway.

Police said he ran from the car but was apprehended with the assistance of a Clearwater Police K9. During the arrest, officers said the suspect assaulted the dog, which was not injured. The suspect was treated for bites from the dog after he kicked the animal, police said.

According to police, the stolen Lincoln and another stolen car had been spotted shortly before 11 p.m. near Union Street and Highland Avenue by two Clearwater police officers who attempted to pull them over.

Police said both cars fled the attempted traffic stop but were not pursued because they sped away from the scene.

The other car, a stolen 2005 Infinity, was recovered nearby at Flagler Drive and Gentry Street. The Lincoln was found crashed into the fence of the golf course a short time later.

The driver was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center and charged with multiple offenses, including grand theft auto, fleeing and eluding and battery on a law enforcement dog.
