A Pasco County judge has set a date for the murder trial of accused movie theater shooter Curtis Reeves.

The trial is scheduled to start Aug. 24.

The trial could last as long as three weeks, said Pasco Circuit Judge Pat Siracusa.

Prosecutors say Reeves, a 72-year-old retired Tampa police captain, shot Chad Oulson, 43, during an argument over texting while the previews were playing before the film "Lone Survivor." Oulson's wife, Nicole, was shot in the hand.

The incident took place in Auditorium 10 of the Cobb Grove 16 theatre in Wesley Chapel in January of 2014.

Reeves, charged with second-degree murder and aggravated battery, is free on bail after spending about six months in jail. He has pleaded not guilty.
