The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is searching for a driver accused of hitting and killing a man in Tampa Monday night.

According to authorities, Nicholas Carson Southerland, 67, of Riverview, was walking across eastbound Orient Road just south of Waycross Avenue at 10 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle.

The vehicle, which is believed to be a late 1990s to early 2000s white Ford F-150, drove off, heading north on Orient Road, officials said.

Southerland died as a result of his injuries. Southerland was the owner of a small air-conditioning business.

The vehicle, possibly a newer-model white pickup truck, left the scene northbound on Orient Road, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, which provided this image of the possible vehicle.

According to the sheriff's office, the suspect vehicle will have damage to a bug guard which is located at the edge of the hood. A 2-foot piece of the guard was left at the scene.

The sheriff's office said the stretch of road is particularly dark, which could have been a factor in the crash.

Anyone with any information reference the suspect is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at 247-8200 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS(8477).
