A tractor trailer carrying a backhoe hit the I-75 overpass at State Road 50 in Brooksville.

The westbound lanes of State Road 50 and one northbound lane of I-75 are closed as a result of the crash, which happened Tuesday at 4:23 p.m. The Florida Highway Patrol says they will remain closed for at least the next 24 hours.

One northbound lane of I-75 was reopened shortly after 9 p.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the tractor trailer was traveling west on State Road 50, transporting a backhoe on a flatbed trailer.

Officials say the backhoe was loaded improperly, as it was over-height, and so when the tractor trailer went under the overpass, the backhoe hit the concrete structure, causing a large amount of debris to fall on the road.

Some of the debris hit a 2010 Honda, causing minor damage to the car.

Neither driver was injured in the crash.

The overpass has been so badly damaged that transportation officials won't allow anyone to drive over or under it.

Traffic is being diverted around the site of the crash, with northbound traffic on I-75 being sent onto State Road 50 and re-routed back onto the northbound entrance ramp to I-75.
