The Manatee County School District has created a survey asking parents and community members about school start times.

The district released the survey on Thursday, and it will be available through the end of December.

There are three options to choose from on the survey. One is keeping the start times as they are, the second is switching start times and the last is pushing start times back.

Recently there have been some complaints about how early high school students start class. High schools begin at 7:30 or 7:45 a.m., while elementary schools start at 8:30 a.m. and middle schools at 9:20 a.m.

School board member Charlie Kennedy has pointed to research that indicates teenagers would do better academically with later school start times.

Officials say they are using the survey to gather information, but that any changes to school start times would require further deliberations by the school board.
