Bicyclist struck, injured on U.S. 301 in Riverview

A bicyclist crossing U.S. 301 was struck by a pickup truck and seriously injured Tuesday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Remigio Baerga, 39, of Riverview was crossing the southbound lanes of the highway near Progress Boulevard around 9:20 p.m. when he was hit by a 2008 Ford F-150.

Baerga was taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the truck, Ira Johnson, 60, of Riverview, and a passenger were not injured.

Charges are pending, the FHP said.
