Winter Haven police are searching for the driver in a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian.

According to police, 52-year-old Tamera Persong was struck by a vehicle while walking on First Street South in the area of Avenue F South Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Witnesses reported seeing a white or gray BMW SUV leave the scene. The vehicle will likely have front end damage and damage to the radiator with fluid leaks.

Meanwhile, another pedestrian was killed in Tampa Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 64-year-old man visiting the area from the United Kingdom was killed when he was struck by an SUV on Florida Avenue.

Troopers said the man stepped in front of a Jeep SUV on Florida Ave. near Siobhan Avenue at 5:30 p.m.

The man, whose name has not been released, died at the scene.

The 18-year-old man driving the Jeep, and his 18-year-old passenger were not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
