Crews removed the 39-foot boat today that crashed into a Ruskin restaurant late Monday afternoon.

The four-motor SeaVee boat that left the water and crashed into the Sunset Grill in Little Harbor was pulled out of the restaurant by a crane. The boat was then loaded onto a trailer.

Crews said the building was stabilized ahead of the boat being pulled out. Also, parts of the structure's roof were removed to dislodge the boat.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, fog was a factor when Matthew Santiago, 31, became unaware of his surroundings and crashed the boat into the eatery. FWC officials said Santiago may have been traveling at 30 to 40 mph at the time of the crash.

Santiago was cited in the crash.

There were no injuries, but the restaurant was heavily damaged.

The Sunset Grill restaurant and lounge is a popular spot with area boaters. Owners said they hope to reopen by the weekend.
