Traffic planners in Polk County are looking to the future - the year 2040, to be exact.

They hope that 25 years from now, the roads in Polk County will be fatality-free. It's a lofty goal, but one they feel will keep group members on task to help create a safer system of roads, sidewalks, bridges and trails in the county.

Tom Deardorff, executive director for the Polk Transportation Planning Organization, and his team are looking for public input on their mission. So they've launched the Polk Momentum 2040 website.

The website offers a place for members of the public to tell planners about the places they think need attention. The map is completely interactive. Users can drop map pins on the site with a detailed explanation of the problem.

Those comments and suggestions can be seen by others who can give them a thumbs up and add additional comment.

Deardorff says anyone who uses the roads in Polk County should help them redesign a better and safer transportation system.

The survey will be up through the end of the year.  The organization also has a Facebook and Twitter page for additional information.
