A Venice woman traveling with a 6-year-old girl was killed Tuesday night when her sport utility vehicle left the road and struck two trees, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Around 10:45 p.m., Amanda Megan Erin Rimes, 26, was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer north on Mondon Road when she veered onto the east shoulder. The SUV traveled onto Soult Road briefly, then shot onto the west shoulder, where it struck the trees and spun counter-clockwise.

Rimes, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene. The 6-year-old child, Serenity Lynn Rimes, was taken to Bayfront Health Brooksville with minor injuries.
