After rain all but washed out the first half of the weekend, drier weather and glimpses of sunshine will return today.

It'll still be mostly cloudy, but temperatures will climb into the upper 70s, and the only rain in the forecast is some sea-breeze-generated inland showers later in the day, according to Bay News 9 meteorologist Josh Linker.

A high pressure area off the Carolina coast that has kept temperatures down in recent days is weakening and sinking to the south. That will allow of high pressure aloft to lift from the south and settle in over Florida.

The end result will be much more sunshine and temperatures in the low 80s for first three days of the work week.

"Today will kind of a transition day to that pattern," Linker said. "There will be a couple of showers today with an east-southeast sea breeze, right around the I-75 corridor. It won't be anything like yesterday."

The rain chance drops to 10 percent tomorrow and then zero on Tuesday and Wednesday.
