A new traffic study out by AAA, shows a disturbing and drastic increase in the number of accidents involving distracted teen drivers.

AAA released hidden camera video of actual distracted teen drivers.

Officials there report that of the 1,700 teen crashes they monitored, 58% of them were caused by distracted teen drivers. That's more than quadruple the 14% that's been reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"It happens all the time," says Tarpon Springs high school junior Demi Voutisnas. "I see my friends do it. I obviously would ask them not to if I'm in the car with them. Looking out for my own safety."

The top three distractions for teen drivers according to AAA are interacting with a passenger, cell phone usage, and looking at something outside their vehicle.

Tarpon Springs High School senior Miranda Furlan says, "If I'm ever driving with a friend, I'll kind to take their phones away from them so they don't do that and the same thing for myself. I'll kinda hide my phone so I don't do that."
