Charter Communications announced today it will purchase Bright House Networks. Bright House is the sixth-largest cable operator in the country, serving more than two million customers in the Tampa Bay and Orlando markets, as well as customers in four other states.

Charter will acquire Bright House for more than $10 billion. The deal is subject to several conditions, including regulatory approval and pending deals involving Charter, Time Warner Cable and Comcast.

When completed, the new Charter Communications will be the second largest cable company in the country, serving more than 12 million customers. Charter, based in Stamford, Conn., offers cable TV, high-speed internet and phone service in 28 states.

Advance Newhouse, Bright House’s parent company, will own 26 percent of the new partnership, and Charter will own the remaining 74 percent.
