A compromise has been reached on the bathroom policy at Zephyrhills High School.

When students returned after Spring Break, a new policy had been put into place.

It required teachers to call an administrator to take students to the bathroom.

Kylee-Ann Witzke, who's a senior, organized a protest.

"I'm about to be 18 and I'm going to live on my own here within the next month and the policy was very demeaning to me, especially considering that I will be living on my own and being in high school about to graduate and I'm being walked to the bathroom," she said.

ZHS staff has come up with an alternative to replace the escort policy.

  • If students need to use the restroom during class, they'll have to use a pass. Hall monitors will be in place and students will have to show the pass when asked.
  • No passes will be given out during the first 10 minutes or last 10 minutes of each period
  • Only passes to the Media Center will be given out during lunch
  • Administrators will continue to monitor the halls at all times

Witzke said she's satisfied with the new plan.

"I feel that it's a lot more fair, you know, having the stricter passes and having a hall monitor, I feel is going to be more productive for administration than the policy that they had before," she said.
