Firefighters responded to a second fire late Tuesday at a north Tampa apartment where a fire was intentionally set a day earlier.

On Monday, Lester George Jr., 31, was arrested after investigators determined he intentionally set a fire in Unit E, Building 24 at the Ashford Apartments while his blind uncle and girlfriend slept in the next room. Lester was charged with first degree arson and culpable negligence of a disabled adult.

The second fire, although located in the same area, was not suspicious, authorities said. Investigators said it was caused by an unattended candle left in the rear closet. Firefighters had turned off the power to the unit after the first fire.

The Ashford Apartments are located at 10610 N 30th Street. Investigators said the second fire caused an additional $1,000 in damage to the unit and its contents.

No injuries were reported from either fire.
