Citrus County commissioners have shut down plans to bring a new hotel to Homosassa.

The board voted 5-0 Tuesday night against a proposed rezoning change by F. Blake Longacre that would have allowed a 110-room hotel on 11 acres where Halls River Road and the Halls River meet.

Commissioners agreed with residents that the hotel was a poor fit for the heavily wooded area.

The county staff had recommended approval as had the Planning and Development Commission, according to the Citrus County Chronicle.
