Two local companies are helping a family recovering from a deadly home invasion robbery in January.

The companies have donated supplies and labor to put a new roof on a home for several of the survivors.

One person was killed and four people were injured in the robbery. Three of the survivors who were injured are adult siblings. Levi Atkinson, 20, was left partially paralyzed, 20-year-old Tommy Ussery is recovering from a gunshot wound to the chest and 18-year-old Emilee Wilds suffered a traumatic brain injury when she was pushed to the floor and struck her head.

All three needed to move back into the family home but there wasn't enough room for everyone.

"We literally had no room. I was sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag myself," said mom Kathy Atkinson.

So the family bought a larger home. It needed a lot of repairs, including a new roof.  The ABC Supply company has donated all of the roofing materials and High Tower Roofing has donated the labor.

"The Lord has blessed us and we like to help out," said High Tower owner Robert Sanger. "I feel if he is going to give it to you, you need to pay it forward."

Atkinson is very grateful.

"It's overwhelming, especially when you really needed it, and we didn't think help was going to come," she said.

Doctors told Levi Atkinson that he would probably never walk again after a bullet struck his spine. However, he is now taking steps with the help of a walker and hopes to walk on his own again one day.
