Dozens of dogs and cats removed from a St. Pete rescue organization last month are now in the legal custody of Pinellas County Animal Services.

A total of 59 animals were brought to the shelter last month after being removed from Creatures Great and Small Wildlife Inc., a non-profit organization.

Three dogs and one cat were humanely euthanized because of their deteriorated medical conditions. Four dogs are being held pending litigation.

A majority of the animals are expected to be returned to their originating adoption agencies.

All of the other dogs and cats from that case will be available for adoption at Pinellas County Animal Services on Monday, April 20.

Board members Patricia Gates Scites and Veronica Anne Faulseit ran the rescue out of Faulseit’s 4162 13th Ave. North home, police say.

Police say they were keeping numerous animals, including 23 adult dogs, 14 puppies, 14 cats, several raccoons and an opossum, outside the home caged in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions without adequate food and water.
