For the first time in 30 years, warning sirens in the northwest part of the county will not ring.

Crews used to fire up the sirens each Friday at noon to prepare for an emergency at the Crystal River nuclear power plant.

The plant has been closed for more than five years and radiation has naturally decreased to the point where there is no more risk to neighbors and sirens aren't needed.
