St. Petersburg has just become the first city in Florida to adopt a wage dispute program.

The city council approved the measure on Thursday night.

The new programs will allow workers to file a wage dispute with the city for no charge and without hiring an attorney.

For example, if an employee of any St. Petersburg company feels they are not being paid overtime, they can file a claim with the city.

That employee could be eligible for back pay.

And the city may publish the name of the offending company and stop it from getting any city contracts.
