Police are investigating two overnight shootings in Tampa, one that left a man dead and another in which a group of people were shot at.

The fatal shooting happened around 4 a.m. at 3015 Chestnut Avenue in Northeast MacFarlane. Officers found a man dead outside the home there, and unknown suspects fled on foot, according to Tampa police.

About five hours earlier, several people were gathered in the 3200 block of E Comanche Avenue in Old Seminole Heights when shots were fired from a vehicle. One person was grazed on the shoulder, and another was shot in the foot. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to St. Joseph's Hospital, police said.

The suspect vehicle was described only as being dark in color.

No other information has been released.

Meanwhile Saturday, Police Chief Jane Castor and District 2 officers will join Sulphur Springs residents and leaders in a march against violent crime.

Starting at noon, officers and community members will march from Abundant Life Church (8117 N. 13th Street) to Idlewild Sulphur Springs Church (8209 N. 19th Street) to deliver a message that "crime will not be tolerated."

The march will stop at 920 E. Sitka Street, where 14-year-old Richard Newton was shot and killed last month.  After a brief moment of silence, participants will continue marching to Idlewild Sulphur Springs Church for refreshments, entertainment and an opportunity to connect with positive resources in the neighborhood.

District 2 Detective Talley Cooks will serve his "famous" jambalaya.  Community activist Vivian Heyward was instrumental in securing the Cowbros for the event.  The well-known group of African-American ranchers will join more than a dozen community resource vendors who've committed to participate in the rally wrap-up.
