Former State Rep. James Grant, R-Tampa, easily defeated write-in-candidate Daniel Matthews on Tuesday to win the Florida House 64 seat.

Grant's name was the only one on the ballot because Florida law doesn't allow write-in names to appear on the ballot. But Grant won by an overwhelming margin and visited polling locations to thank those who came out.

The Tampa Republican won 59.5 percent of the vote last November when he ran against Miriam Steinberg, but the House rejected the results because of a dispute over whether Matthews was eligible to be a candidate.

District 64 includes parts of Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.
