Marie Jarrell, a Chicago-area physical therapist, returned to St. Petersburg Sunday to participate in the 2015 St. Anthony’s Triathlon.

She has run the Triathlon six or seven times including five years in row.

It was just one year ago while cheering on friends at the Triathlon that Jarrell, 52, received a devastating diagnosis- she had breast cancer.

After having a mastectomy and months of chemotherapy, Jarrell trained and finished the race in a total of 4:42:10.

Jarrell said the experience has taught her that no matter how tough things get there is truly a light at the end of the tunnel.
